Working Model
Our working model is based on a structured workflow that takes into account various checks and balances that help ensure accurate results.
Methodology
At Zakat Expert, we follow a structured, transparent, and client centric process to ensure that business and investment zakat is calculated with the highest level of Shariah accuracy and financial rigor. Our approach is designed to be thorough yet seamless, guiding clients step by step while maintaining clarity and peace of mind throughout the engagement.
1. Receiving financial reports for the zakat year
The process begins with the collection of the company’s or investments financial reports for the relevant financial period in which zakat is to be assessed. These reports provide the foundational data required to understand the nature, structure, and composition of the assets and obligations involved.
2. Gathering additional information
Where necessary, we request supplementary information to ensure the zakat calculation is both precise and comprehensive. This may include clarifications on asset classifications, ownership structures, investment purposes, or contractual arrangements that affect zakat treatment under Shariah. Our aim at this stage is to eliminate ambiguity and ensure that no zakatable element is overlooked or misclassified.
3. Detailed analysis of financial statements
At this stage, our consultants conduct a meticulous review of the financial information from both a Shariah and accounting perspective. This includes:
Identifying all zakatable assets in detail, such as capital, trading inventory, liquid funds, receivables, and investment holdings, based on their underlying nature and intended use.
Determining deductible liabilities that are legitimately offset against the zakatable base, including short-term debts and essential operating obligations, in accordance with Shariah principles.
Once the zakatable base is accurately established, the applicable zakat rate of 2.5% is applied, taking into account the client’s chosen approach to the lunar year and any relevant Shariah considerations linked to the business or investment structure.
4. Client engagement and communication
We place strong emphasis on active and ongoing engagement with our clients throughout the assessment process. This includes:
Clearly explaining the information required and guiding clients on how best to prepare and present it.
Providing transparent explanations regarding the treatment of specific assets, liabilities, or financial entries.
Responding to questions and concerns as they arise, ensuring full transparency, understanding, and confidence in the process.
This collaborative approach helps clients remain fully informed and reassured at every stage.
5. Preparing the zakat report and follow-up
Following the completion of the analysis, we prepare a comprehensive zakat report that clearly presents:
The total zakatable assets identified.
The deductions applied and their Shariah basis.
The final zakat amount payable.
The report is delivered either by email or through a secure personal client account, which also allows clients to access and track all historical and current zakat assessments for future reference.
6. Payment recommendation and certification
Upon the client’s review and approval of the zakat report, we issue an official Zakat Certificate. This certificate confirms that the zakat calculation has been conducted in full compliance with Shariah rulings and recognized methodological standards. It serves as a formal, institutional reference, providing clients with certainty, documentation, and assurance that their zakat obligation has been fulfilled correctly and responsibly.
Process
We employ a structured process that has been designed to be modular, secure, transparent, and client-centered, while maintaining rigorous Shariah methodology and professional standards at every stage.
1. Client registration
The journey begins with the creation of a client account on our internal system. This account serves as a secure, centralized access point for all zakat services, documents, and communications. To ensure confidentiality and data protection, we provide a secure email to our clients where they can send their financial documents as attachments.
2. Send your financial statements
Clients can send their financial statements either through email or a secure online channel by uploading their financial accounts and relevant asset information. This may include personal assets, business accounts, or investment details, depending on the service. Payment for services is completed through a bank wire or online payment system.
3. Data processing & zakat calculation
Our specialists carefully process the submitted data and perform the zakat assessment with precision and diligence. Each calculation is conducted in light of applicable Shariah rulings and informed by maqasid considerations, ensuring that the outcome is both technically correct and legally sound.
4. Review assessment
Once the assessment is completed, it is shared with the client for review. This step allows clients to verify the information, confirm figures, and raise any questions or clarifications before finalization. Transparency and client confidence are essential parts of our methodology.
5. Electronic signing
After reviewing and confirming the assessment, the client formally approves it through secure electronic signing or by email confirmation. This step completes the assessment process and ensures proper documentation and accountability.
6. Issuance of zakat certificate
Following approval, an official Zakat Certificate is issued and sent to the client via email. The certificate is also stored within the client’s personal account, allowing easy access for records, institutional requirements, or personal assurance.
7. Guidance & education
Our role does not end with calculation. We provide clients with guidance and educational insights on the spiritual, social, and economic dimensions of zakat. This helps clients understand how zakat purifies wealth, benefits communities, and fulfills its higher Shariah objectives.
8. Client support & follow-up
We offer ongoing support to address inquiries, assist with future updates to accounts or assets, and provide continued zakat related guidance. Our relationship with clients is designed to be enduring, supportive, and responsive to changing circumstances.
